DAY 1:NEW YORK- VENICE

Departure from NYC on an overnight flight to Venice.

DAY 2: VENICE

We arrive at Venice Airport and meeting with our English-speaking Tour Escort. Transfer to Padua for lunch and a tour including a visit to St. Anthony’s Cathedral and Scrovengi Chapels*. Overnight in the region. (D)

DAY 3: PADUA – VENICE – PADUA

Depart for Venice, which started out as a Byzantine province. We have a guided tour of St. Mark’s Square and Doge’ Palace. We then visit the Museum of the Venetian-Greek Icons. Afternoon visit to the islands of Murano, famous for its glass making and the Basilica of Santa Maria e Donato, with Byzantine mosaics. We then head for the island of Torcello to see the Cathedral of Torcello, Santa Maria Assunta with the mosaic of the Last Judgement.. Overnight Padua. (B.D)

DAY 4: PADUA – RAVENNA – FLORENCE

This morning we depart for Ravenna, whose beauty at first sight is not evident as it is hidden inside the majestic Byzantine churches. The works of art are spread over four periods. We see Musoleum of Galla Placidia, Baptistry of the Orthodox, Baptistry of the Arians, St. Apolinare Nuovo and St. Apolinare in Classe as well as St. Vitale. In the late afternoon departure to Florence. Dinner and overnight in Florence at the hotel. (BD)

DAY 5: FLORENCE

Our morning tour includes St. Mark’s Monastery, the Cathedral and Baptistery (from the outside), Holy Cross Church and the Medici Chapels. Afternoon is at leisure to see the famous Uffizi Gallery and the Accademia. Overnight Florence. (B)

DAY 6: FLORENCE- ORVIETO-ROME

We have Liturgy at in the Orthodox Church, before departing for Orvieto. We take the funicular up to the Cathedral, for a tour of one of the most beautiful Cathedrals in Italy. We then have a wine tasting of the famous local wine. Afternoon arrival in Rome. (B.D.)

DAY 7: ROME-ANCIENT ROME TOUR

We have a guided tour of the Church of St. Sabina, Circus Maximus, Imperial Palace, Coliseum, Arch of Constantine, Roman Forum, with the churches, St. Maria Antiqua, Sss Cosma and Damiano, Mamertine Prison and St. Nicholas Church. Later you have time to walk over to the Trevi Fountain and to the Spanish Steps. Overnight Rome. (B.D.)

DAY 8: ROME- CHRISTIAN ROME

Our tour today includes Santa Maria in Trastevere, St. Peter’s Basilica, and Scavi (if possible) St. Maria Maggiore, Holy Stairs, St. John the Laterann, including Baptistry, St. Clement and St. Paul Outside the Walls. Overnight Rome. (B.D.)

DAY 9: ROME

Today we tour the Catacombs and then have an afternoon at leisure for shopping and further exploration, or visit the Vatican Museum. Overnight Rome. (B.D.)

DAY 10: NAPLES / AMALFI COAST

We depart Rome for Naples, where we have a tour of the Duomo, and the nearby St. Georgio Maggiore.Then we have a lunch in a typical trattoria. The day ends in Paesteum to visit the Temples. Overnight Salerno. (BL)

DAY 11: SALERNO / POMPEII/ SORRENTO

This morning we tour the volcanic ruins of Pompeii, and the Rosary Basilica, and then continue to the famous village of Capri. Weather permitting we enter the Blue Grotto by boat, a spectacular sight, have dinner and depart for Sorrento for overnight. (B.D.)

DAY 12: SORRENTO

We take a leisurely drive along the breathtaking Amalfi coast, stop for a fish lunch and some interesting shopping in the local Italian villages. In the afternoon we return to Sorrento for a relaxing afternoon after a busy tour. Overnight Sorrento. (B.D.)

DAY 13 : NAPLES/USA

We transfer early to the Naples airport and flight home. (B)
