DAY 1: DEPART THE U. S. A.

You’ll leave this evening on an overnight flight to Rome.

DAY 2: ROME

Welcome to Rome! Upon arrival, you are greeted by your tour escort and transferred to the hotel. Afternoon is at leisure to become acclimated to a new time zone. Overnight Rome. (D.)

DAY 3: CHRISTIAN ROME

Today you are at the center of Western civilization and the heart of modern Italy. The “ Eternal City”, where three millennia of Mediterranean civilization exist, is full of larger than life monuments, which you see during the Ancient and Christian tour. You see the Roman Forum, the Colloseum, Piazza Venezia, Via Veneto, Aurelian Wall, Castle Sant’ Angelo, the Pantheon, St. Mary Major, St. John the Lateran, and the Holy Stairs. Overnight Rome (B.D.)

DAY 4: ROME

This morning you visit St. Peter’s Basilica, including the Scavi with St. Peter’s Tomb,(pending special permission by the Vatican) the Vatican Museum, Library and Sistine Chapel. Afternoon is at leisure to explore the city, visit one of the many museums or enjoy a gellato in Piazza Novano. Overnight Rome. (B.)

DAY 5: STS. PETER AND PAUL in ROME

Our day starts with a drive on the Appian Way to the famous church of Quo Vadis, located on the spot where Christ appeared to Peter, and the Apostle asked “ Domine, quo vadis? “ (Where are you going, Lord ?). We also stop at the Inn where Paul rested, before arriving at the seat of the former Holy Roman Empire. Visit the Catacombs where the early Christians hid, prayed and buried their dead. Of special interest are the Catacombs of St. Sebastian with remnants of the original basilica dedicated to Peter and Paul. Continue with a visit to St. Paul’s Outside the Walls, built over the burial place of the Saint. Nearby is the sight of Three Fountains, said to spring up as the Apostle’s head bounced three times after his beheading. Then see the Mamertine prison, where St. Peter and St. Paul were imprisoned. In the afternoon transfer to the airport and flight to Athens. Welcome to Greece. You will be met by your tour guide and transferred to the hotel. (B.D.)

Day 6: ATHENS

The morning city tour highlights the ancient city including the Acropolis and Mars Hill where St. Paul preached. Afternoon at leisure to explore Plaka, the old city, shop or visit the best Archeological Museum in the world. Overnight Athens. (B.)

DAY 7: ATHENS-CORINTH

This morning travel to Corinth following the same land tour Paul took. Enroute stop at Ossios Loukas, considered the most important of its kind in Greece, with mosaics thought to be masterpieces. Then on to Corinth to the marketplace where the Apostle preached, the Archeological Museum and the Temples. Paul stayed here a long time and founded the first church consisting entirely of Gentiles. On the way back to Athens see the Corinth Canal and Cenchraeae Harbor from which Paul sailed to Ephesus. Overnight Athens. (B.)

DAY 8: PIRAEUS-MYKONOS

Transfer to Piraeus where you embark on a four-day cruise. First stop is picture perfect Mykonos, with its white houses and world famous windmills. We celebrate Mass at the small Catholic church. (B.L.D.)

DAY 9: KUSADASI-PATMOS

In the morning the ship arrives in the colorful Turkish port of Kusadasi. Take a short drive to one of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor, Ephesus, declared one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Here you see Mary’s House, and become a part of biblical history as you stand in the place where St. John wrote his Gospel. Tradition tells us that the Apostle accompanied Mary to Ephesus where they both lived and died. See the Monastery of St. John, where tradition tells us the Apostle is buried. Also, visit Mary’s house where tradition tells us Mary spent her last days, before leaving the Holy Land. Paul also came here. He lived in Ephesus for two and a half years and was responsible for the great riot of Ephesus. Marvel at the well-preserved ruins, as you walk down the 5000 year old streets, to the majestic Library. In the afternoon cruise towards Patmos, where St. John the Divine received the mystical revelation, which forms the last book of The New Testament. Your optional excursion takes you to the Grotto of the Revelation and the 11th century Monastery of St. John, which houses the original manuscript of the Gospel. (B.L.D.)

DAY 10: RHODES

Take an optional excursion to visit the Temple of Athena on the majestic rocky acropolis of Lindos, or explore the island where the Knights of St. John had their stronghold and built magnificent fortresses and parks. (B.L.D.)

DAY 11: HERAKLION-SANTORINI

Our first stop is Heraklion, Crete, birthplace of Zeus and the legendary home of Minotaur. In the afternoon visit Santorini the incredibly beautiful, volcanic island and the legendary site of the lost Atlantis. (B.L.D.)

DAY 12: RETURN TO THE U.S.A.

You are transferred to the airport for your flight home. (B.)
