DAY 1: DEPART U.S.A.

You leave this evening on an overnight flight to Tel Aviv.

DAY 2: WELCOME TO THE HOLY LAND

You will be met by your tour guide and transferred to the hotel in the coastal resort town of Netanya. You have time to become acclimated to a new time zone and stroll along the tranquil shores of the Mediterranean Sea. This afternoon you have dinner and overnight in Netanya. (D.)

DAY 3: CAESAREA-HAIFA-MT. CARMEL–NAZARETH-CANA–GALILEE

After a delicious Israeli breakfast you travel up the coastline to the ancient Roman city of Caesarea, you see the harbor from which Paul was imprisoned and taken to Rome. Continue to the third largest city in Israel, Haifa. Visit the Carmelite Monastery “ Stella Maris “,  here is Elijah’s Grotto and Our Lady of Mount Carmel. We celebrate Mass in this peaceful spot. Enjoy the breathtaking view from atop Mt. Carmel before you proceed to Nazareth, one of the holiest towns in Christendom and see Mary’s Well where the Angel Gabriel told Mary she will give birth to Our Lord Jesus Christ. Visit the Church of Annunciation. The Holy Father celebrated Annunciation Day Mass in the Basilica of the Annunciation. Continue to Cana to visit the Wedding Church, site of Jesus first miracle. DAY 4: GALILEE

Drive to the Mount of Beatitudes where Our Lord preached the Sermon on the Mount, and where we celebrate Mass.  Next we go to Tabgha, Greek for Seven Springs, and the Church of the Multiplication of Fishes and Loaves. Visit the Church of St. Peter’s Primacy. Explore Capernaum, headquarters of Jesus’ ministry in Galilee and see the new church built on St. Peter’s house. Visit Chorazim, which was cursed by Our Lord because the people did not follow his teachings. This was the site of the giant Mass celebrated by Pope John Paul II. Here Sail on the peaceful waters across the Sea of Galilee. See the “ Jesus boat “ uncovered in 1986 from the mud on the seashore. There will be an opportunity to taste St. Peter’s fish for lunch (optional/charge).   Stop at Yardenit, the Baptismal site on the river Jordan. Overnight Tiberias. (B.D.)

DAY 5: JERICHO- JERUSALEM

The day starts with a visit to Mt. Tabor and the Church of Transfiguration, before proceeding to Jericho, the oldest known inhabited city in the world. To the south is the Dead Sea and to the west the Mt. of Temptation and the Judean wilderness. We visit Qasr Al Yahud on the River Jordan, the site of Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist, just as the Holy Father did. Late in the afternoon follow the Ancient Pilgrim’s route via the Samaritan Inn to Jerusalem for overnight. ( B.D.)

DAY 6: JERUSALEM: THE HOLY CITY

Enjoy the unforgettable view from atop the Mount of Olives; visit the church of Pater Noster and the Chapel of Ascension. Walk down the Palm Sunday road, stopping at the Chapel of Dominus Flevit (the teardrop). We celebrate Mass in this lovely chapel overlooking the Kidron Valley and the Holy City. Continue to the Church of All Nations in the Garden of Gethsemane. Descend across the Kidron Valley, to the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu where the Apostle denied Christ three times. Continue on to Mt. Zion, to visit the Cenacle (Room of the Last Supper), King David’s Tomb and the Church of the Dormition. Conditions permitting, visit Bethany, site of the house of Mary and Lazarus. Overnight Jerusalem. (B.D.)

DAY 7: BETHLEHEM-EIN KAREM-NEW CITY

Start the day visiting Bethlehem, Shepherd’s Field and Grotto. See the Church of Nativity built over the birthplace of Our Lord. On the way back to Jerusalem stop at the village of Ein Karem the birthplace of St. John the Baptist, and see the Church of Visitation where Mary visited her cousin Elisabeth. We celebrate Mass in Ein Karem, before returning to Jerusalem. Overnight Jerusalem. (B.D.)

DAY 8: JERUSALEM- THE OLD CITY

Enter the old city via Zion Gate. See the Western Wall and the Temple Mount, the Pool of Bethesda, St. Anne’s Church (birthplace of Mary), and the Chapel of Flagellation, Ecco Home Arch and onto the Via Dolorosa. Retrace the final hours of His life, carrying the Cross as we pray the Stations of the Cross, to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site of Our Lord’s death and resurrection. Here on March 26,2000, for the first time in history, John Paul II shared a prayer with clergy of the six major denominations. Overnight Jerusalem (B.D.)

DAY 9: MASADA- DEAD SEA- MT. HEROB (MT. SINAI)

Time permitting we take a dip in the mineral rich waters of the Dead Sea, and then embark on a visit to the historical fortress of Masada. Continue our journey toward the Sacred Holy Site of Mt. Sinai. Overnight Eilat. (B.D.)

DAY 10: MOUNT SINAI

Very early this morning climb Mount Sinai and see where the Children of Israel received the Ten Commandments. The Holy Father standing at the spot where, according to tradition, God first appeared to Moses in the burning bush, called for a universal moral law based on the Ten Commandments written on stone, which should also be written in human hearts. As he was welcome by Greek Orthodox clergy into St. Catherine’s Monastery, the Pope said this visit was the fulfillment of his dream. The pilgrimage had a powerful effect on the pontiff, “ because in the burning bush God defined himself for humanity”. We celebrate Mass in this sacred spot and see the famous art filled Byzantine Monastery of St. Catherine, built in the sixth century on the spot. The monastery is named after the Egyptian virgin martyr whose body was found nearby. Cross the Suez Canal on your way to Cairo. Overnight Cairo. (B.D.)

DAY 11: CAIRO

Explore the Egyptian Museum, the Citadel, the Hanging Church and Mohammed Ali Mosque. We will visit the Christian Churches of Egypt, as the Holy Father did during his visit, and meet with representatives of the local Catholic Coptic Church. In the afternoon explore the city or bargain for treasures at the Bazaar. Overnight Cairo. (B.D.)

DAY 12: CAIRO–PYRAMIDS

{mosimage} Visit the ancient capital of Memphis; see the original form in the Step Pyramid in Sakkara, and the amazing Great Pyramid of Giza and the Sphinx. Experience the mystery of the Nile as you enjoy an optional meal aboard a ship on the great river and watch as life still unfolds with its daily rituals as from ancient times. Overnight Cairo. DAY 13: RETURN TO THE U.S.A.

You are transferred to the airport for the flight home. (B.)
