DAY 1: DEPART U.S.A.

Depart on an overnight flight to Malta.

DAY 2: MALTA

Welcome to Malta. Your tour escort greets you at the airport and you are transferred to the hotel. Afternoon is at leisure to become acclimated to a new time zone. There are 140 churches and chapels dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Malta. Consequently, Malta is often reffered to as the “Archipelago of the Virgin Mary”. This is also the island of St. Paul, and in the next several days we explore the most important historic and religious sights of this beautiful island. Overnight Valetta. (D.)

DAY 3: MALTA

After breakfast we depart for a full day excursion to the island of Gozo. We visit the Ta’Pinu Shrine, the national sanctuary of Malta, visited by John Paul II during his historic trip to Malta, where we celebrate Holy Mass. Visit the old Capital Cittadella, the Cathedral dedicated to St. Mary, St. George’s Basilica and the picturesque bays of Marsalforn and Xlendi. Rest of the day on your own to relax or do some shopping before we take boat crossing back. Overnight Valetta. (B.D.)

DAY 4: RABAT & MDINA

Today we have a half a day excursion to Rabat and Mdina. After Holy Mass at the historic Church of Our Lady of Mt Carmel, we visit a glass blowing factory to see how glass ornaments are made.  We’ll continue with a visit to St. Paul’s Cathedral to view the stone where St. Paul was beheaded.   See St. Paul’s Grotto and St. Paul’s Catacombs. DAY 5: VITTORIOSA-COSPICUA-SENGLEA

Today we travel to the Cottonera area named after Grandmaster Nicolas Cottoner who fortified the three cities of Vittoriosa, Cospicua, and Senglea. We visit the churches of St. Lawrence of Vittoriosa,  Immaculate Conception in Cospicua, and St. Philip in Senglea. After a cruise around Malta’s impressive Grand Harbor we celebrate Mass at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin. Return to the hotel. (B.D.)

DAY 6: VALETTA

The Knights of Malta settled the capital La Valetta in 1530. Our day starts with a Mass at the Church of Our Lady of Pompei at Marsaxlok, followed by exploration of an open air market. We then visit the Church of St. Catherine’s and the Blue Grotto.  Visit the Shrine of Zurieq and the Chapel of Hal Miliere, as well as the Shrine of St. Nicholas in Siggiewi. (B.D.)

DAY 7: MOSTA

Enjoy a half day excursion to the Marian Shrine in Mosta, where we see the third largest dome in Europe, the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Sarria Church renowned for paintings of Malta Preti, and the church of Our Lady of Tal-Herba. Celebrate Mass at National Marian Mellieha Sanctuary. This is the oldest sanctuary in Malta, which stands over the Bay of St. Paul and contains a miraculous image of the Virgin Mary. The Grotto of Mellieha is the place that St. Paul, after being shipwrecked on the island, dwelt for three months.  Penitential Prayer service and Holy Hour at Church of Nazzarenu. Overnight Valetta. DAY 8: VALETTA

Today we have a city tour of Valletta. Your tour includes the fortification and Auberges built by Knights of St. John.  Visit St. Anthony’s Church, Upper Barrakka Gardens and St. John’s Co-Cathedral and museum. See the ancient Icon of Our Lady of Damascus, St Paul’s Shipwreck Church where we celebrate Mass and see the miraculous Crucifix at Ta’Giezu Church. Later, you may wish to visit the Valletta Market where there are plenty of bargains to be had. Tonight we have a farewell dinner in a local restaurant. (B.D.)

DAY 9: RETURN HOME

This morning transfer to the airport for your flight home. (B.)
