Join Fr. Peter Short on Pilgrimage
A native of Connecticut, Fr. Peter Short studied for the priesthood at the “Angelicum” in Rome and was ordained by St. John Paul II in 1982. After spending 31 years in Argentina (the archdiocese of Córdoba and the Andes mountains), he returned to the US and the Diocese of Gallup NM, where he has ministered in several parishes. Presently, he serves as pastor of St. Michaels Mission to the Navajo Nation (in St. Michaels Arizona) and is Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia of the Diocese of Gallup, NM.

Deacon Ron Chavez
Deacon Ronald Chavez is the Director of Deacons in the Diocese of Gallup, New Mexico. He has been married 50 years to his wife Rosie. They have four grown children and 10 grandchildren. They raised their children in Blythe, California and upon retirement moved to the family ranch in St. John’s, Arizona. He serves 2 parishes, St. John the Baptist and San Rafael, in St. John’s. He is the Director of Religious Education in his parishes. He enjoys woodworking, playing guitar, singing duets with Rosie and visiting their children and grandchildren.
Deacon Marty Smith
Deacon Martin Smith a native of the Diocese of Gallup, was Baptized on the Laguna Reservation at St. Margeret Mary Church in Paraje New Mexico. He grew up in Winslow Az. and attended St. Joseph ‘s Catholic School. Deacon Smith then went onto become a Diesel/Generator/Transport Refrigeration Technician. Then retired from the day to day operations. He and his wife opened a business in Farmington NM in 2004. He then entered the Diaconate formation program in 2017. He was Ordained a Deacon in The Diocese of Gallup August 14,2021 by His Excellency Reverend Bishop James S. Wall. Deacon Smith is currently serving the Parishes of St. Joseph’s Aztec NM and Holy Trinity Parish Flora Vista NM.
