What is so Special About 2026 in Italy?
Pope Leo XIV announce that from January 10, 2026 through January 10, 2027, the Church would celebrate a Special Jubilee Year to commemorate the 800th anniversay of the death of Saint Francis of Asissi. Details of special events are beginning to arise, we know that the relics of St. Francis will be on display at least through March 26, 2026.
In his decree, Pope Leo XIV also announced that any Catholic making a pilgrimage “to any Franciscan conventual church, or place of worship in any part of the world named after St. Francis or connected to him for any reason,” and under the usual conditions, may be granted a plenary indulgence.
