What is so Special About 2027 in Mexico City?
Pope Leo XIV announced that from October 12, 2026, through October 12, 2027, the Church will celebrate a Special Jubilee Year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the new Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 1976. Details of special events are already in the works. This will be a fabulous year to visit Mexico City.
Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes announced that pilgrims who meet the usual conditions and who visit “with devotion and a contrite spirit, the sacred house of St. Mary of Guadalupe and participate in a liturgical act or spend time in prayer at the Basilica” will be granted a plenary indulgence.
